Ducati 1199 Panigale “Superquadro” power house revealed

With just a matter of weeks to go until the final unveiling of Ducati’s brand new 1199 Panigale at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan (10-13 November), the Italian manufacturer now reveals the secrets behind the awesome power of its 2012 Superbike.

Ducati’s latest engine, the Superquadro, goes beyond the barriers of engineering to enable the introduction of a futuristic Superbike today. Its no-compromise approach to design, combined with Ducati’s Italian innovation has now set the most extreme benchmark ever and stands as the latest milestone in Ducati’s long and iconic history of Superbike engines.

The innovative Superquadro engine, so called because of its massively over-square bore and stroke ratio, has increased power to an absolute production twin-cylinder milestone of 195hp and torque to 98.1 lb-ft (13.5kgm) with user-friendly Riding Modes that deliver that power appropriate to the rider’s style and environment. Its construction has enabled a radical reduction in overall vehicle weight and, further identifying Ducati’s constant pursuit of performance perfection, major services have been extended to 24,000km (15,000 miles).

Only Fabio Taglioni’s masterpiece 90° L-twin configuration and Desmodromic valve control have been retained from previous engines. Everything else is new.

Diavel Scoops MCN's Machine of the Year and Cruiser of the Year Awards 2011

The Ducati Diavel has been named as MCN’s Machine of the Year 2011 at a glittering awards ceremony attended by the heads of the Motorcycle Industry and the MCN team.

The Diavel took the prestigious award despite stiff competition from other manufacturers, but it was its ‘rule-changing’ and ability to ‘redefine the cruiser class’ that impressed the MCN judges.

Motorcycle News Editor and head of the awards judging panel was ‘blown-away’ by the Diavel and commented: “There was no hesitation here because I have never known a bike exceed expectations by such as huge margin. It has massive presence as a cruiser and should clearly appeal in an entirely new market for Ducati, yet the performance and the feel of the bike is fabulous. It’s easy to forget it also has a world-leading electronics package which otherwise would have been five years away in this sector.”

The Diavel has not only exceeded MCN’s expectations but also Ducati UK’s with sales surpassing initial forecasts and continuing to do so.

Tim Maccabee, Managing Director of Ducati UK collected the award and spoke of his delight at receiving the award: “Receiving this award for the Diavel endorses our experience in the market, both in the UK and around the world. When people test ride a Diavel they invariably want one and demand and has been high since the launch.”

Ducati has continued to innovate and build on the relationship with AMG by recently introducing the Diavel AMG Special Edition, the flagship model for the Diavel family.

Ducati announces 2012 Superbike name as “Ducati 1199 Panigale”

Having attracted massive, world-wide interest during the machine’s many test phases, the exciting new model is also now officially named in an emotional video released on the Italian manufacturer’s website, Ducati.com, and Ducati Motor Holding’s official Youtube channel. The wait to discover the incredible performance, innovative design and ground-breaking technologies of the new 1199 Panigale will continue for just a few more weeks.

Pronounced “Pan-ee-gah-lee”, the new model breaks with Ducati’s Superbike tradition by adding a name to its 1199cc engine capacity (referred to as eleven-nine-nine), making a significant and warm association to its historic roots in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna. In an Italian territory known as “Motor Valley” and where high performance and racing runs through the veins of its passionate people, Ducati now underline their pride in being world ambassadors for the “Made in Italy” title by immortalizing their home town in the name of the new Superbike.

Developed as a true sport bike with competition in its DNA, the Ducati 1199 Panigale will first see racing action in the 2012 FIM Superstock Championship and, in accordance with the factory’s development program, make its debut in World Superbike in 2013.

The two-stage introduction enables Ducati additional development for the Superbike version of the 1199 Panigale, appropriate to the more open regulations of the World Superbike category, and in addition help control costs for World Superbike teams who can continue to compete with a 2012 version of the 1198 with technical support from Ducati Engineers.

The new 2010 Multistrada 1200

Ducati UK will be showcasing two of the hottest new models at this year's NEC motorcycle show.

The new and eagerly awaited Multistrada 1200 along with the acclaimed Hypermotard 796 will be making their UK debuts at the International Motorcycle Show in Birmingham from the 27th November to the 6th December.

Ducati will have just two new models on display rather than their full range with a smaller scale stand than in previous years.  However despite the economic climate that has resulted in other manufacturers taking the decision not to attend this year's show at all, Ducati felt it was vital to not only support the UK's premier motorcycle show but also not to deny the British public the opportunity to see one the most important and eagerly awaited bikes of 2010.

The Multistrada 1200 unveiled recently at the Milan show stunned visitors with its innovative Ducati 2010 Multistrada 1200looks and class leading technology. The Multistrada is a bike with the emphasis on ‘multi' and could be described as four-bikes-in-one as its characteristics can be changed by the touch of a button to different riding modes: Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Power and torque delivery, suspension settings and traction control can be changed even while riding. The Multistrada incorporates many innovations including ride–by-wire, Ducati traction control (DTC), Ducati electronic suspension (DES), a new Testestretta 11° 150hp producing 87.5lb ft of torque  and a host of other cutting edge specifications.

Weighing in at 189kg the Multistrada is lighter than any other road enduro, touring or sport touring bike currently available and coupled with class leading technology, Ducati has once again set the benchmark and is certain to be the biggest draw at the show.

The Hypermotard 796 joins the Multistrada at the NEC and has already been lauded after its recent press launch in Bologna where it impressed with its agility and adeptness and will no doubt be a draw to those looking for a versatile urban companion.  The 796 is as aggressively striking as the 1100, but with a lower seat height, flexible 81hp engine and an overall weight of 167kg, the new 796 fuses aggression with mild manners, a perfect combination for the city or the open road.
