Ride to Work Day 20th June

With petrol prices and train fares rising, and the constant threat of tube strikes, riding a motorbike or scooter to work has never looked like a better option.

So on June 20, every motorcyclist in Britain should be out on two wheels, showing what makes it such a great way to commute.

As well as showing the benefits of riding to the individual commuter, the MCI will be using Ride to Work Day to demonstrate how much better everybody's lives would be if more people rode to work more often. Steve Kenward, MCI CEO said “More motorcycles on the road would benefit everyone, with less congestion, less pollution and less crowding on public transport.

"The more riders who sign up and take part in Ride to Work Day, the more we get the message across, about the benefits of commuting by motorcycle or scooter. This makes the case all the stronger for motorcycling as a central part of the transport mix.”

The Motorcycle Industry's Get On campaign will also be using the day to encourage new riders to make motorcycling part of their daily routine, and to show non-riders what they're missing.

Ducati Days May 21-22

Ducati Days The Art of CorseDucati UK recently announced a spectacular two day event to be held at Silverstone Circuit during the weekend of the 21/22 May and now is to bring even more activities, attractions and value to this ultimate Ducati event.

This unique event will host a wide range of activities on and off track at this premier World Championship Circuit. Ducati Days has been designed to be more than just a track day. It is an interactive weekend that encompasses the best elements of Ducati and motorcycling.

Event partners, Silverstone Circuit, has announced a fantastic offer for all participants purchasing a full Rider Ticket. Full ticket holders will now be eligible for two free Silverstone BSB tickets and a 20% discount on up to four MotoGP Ducati Grandstand tickets – a total value £188. This is the chance to see some great racing on a circuit that ‘Ducati days' riders will have experienced for real!

Although the main focus of the weekend for many will be enjoying the three different track configurations that are on offer, others will be seeking out the many activities taking place in the paddock. For some it may be having their suspension fettled by the suspension gurus from Ducati Coventry or for others it will be listening to seminars from industry experts enlightening them on the intricacies of motorcycle technology, the stresses of running a race team or how to become a modern day athlete to compete at the highest level of racing.

Ducati UK has also tried to make the weekend as accessible as possible for non-riders who wish to attend the Ducati Days. Children under 16 can come and enjoy the day free of charge along with Children's entertainment. Day visitor tickets are now available at £15 for adults (this does not include food). Guest tickets for the weekend including food and refreshments are priced at £50 or without food at £25.

In the paddock there will be a number of Ducati partners with trade stands. These will include Moto Icons (Apparel), Bike Trac, R&G, Kiddi Motos and many others. For kids there will be a Children's Entertainment area which will include a bouncy castle and more to be announced.

However, for those that have left the partners and kids behind to focus on a weekend of pure track action there will be plenty on offer. A unique opportunity beckons you to ride the full Silverstone MotoGP Circuit on a weekend with optional training from one the World's best training schools – Californian Superbike School. Riders will also have the chance to ride two other circuit configurations which are the national and international circuit and be the very first to ride out of the new 'wing' pits.

• Day entry ticket (Does not include food and refreshments) £15

• Weekend Entry ticket only (Does not include food or refreshments) £25

• Guest ticket (Breakfast and Lunch included for both days) £50

• Parade Lap ticket (inc entry and food, parade laps are at a controlled speed and with safety cars) £100

RUTTER AND JESSOPP SEEK RAPID RETURN AT BSB SEASON OPENER

The Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati team return to Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend for the opening round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship as Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp prepare for the first two races of the 2011 season, whilst Michael Booth is set for his debut with the team in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship.

The team have had a positive winter of pre-season testing since the end of last season as both riders target a maiden title; Rutter was one of the six riders in the Showdown at the final rounds and Jessopp returns after recovering from injury sustained at Mallory Park last year.

Rutter said: “We have had some positive tests pre-season and we finished the last test at Snetterton feeling happy with our progress. We are ready to go racing and the first weekend at Brands Hatch I think is going to be a bit of a lottery as it is not until everyone is on track that you know where everybody is at. It's going to be a busy weekend but I am really looking forward to it and hopefully we can come away with some strong results for the Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati team.”

Jessopp said: “In some of the pre-season tests I was still struggling with the injury to my leg from last year, but after some rest and extra physio I will be ready to go this weekend. The first weekend is always a bit of an unknown, but once we have had the first practice session we will know what we need to do. We obviously want to get the season off to the best start we can, so we will be pushing hard that's for sure.”

Booth said: “We have had some really good tests and we have been able to get some good mileage clocked up which has given me confidence going into the opening round. I want to pick up where I left off at the end of last season with some strong results to get the season off to the best possible start.”

Team Manager Phil Jessopp concluded: “It has been a long winter for the team and there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to move forward but following pre-season testing we are ready to go this weekend.”

New Diavel Clothing Collection

Diavel ClothingThe new clothing from the Devil collection has been designed to ensure safety, yet developed to provide cool urban style.

Hence new-concept jackets with bold texturing but a decidedly casual look, predominantly dark coloring and tone-on-tone personalization.

Ducati has decided to put the technology of the motorcycling world into a fabric that sparkles when hit by a light source and shines with exceptionally expressive intensity. Coated with reflective micro-spheres, these apparel items cause the light to reverberate, shifting the colour through the spectrum from anthracite grey all the way to white. Pleasing to the eye yet assertive, the clean lines have been designed to adapt to the shape of the body, providing inimitable Ducati style while emphasising form. By increasing visibility these clothing items enhance protection, reducing the risks of night-time riding. Moreover, the line discretely sports a small Ducati shield on the collar, in some cases accompanied by the logo on the back.

Those looking for contemporary casual style with high technological content can count on unrivalled design, technology and performance. In addition to providing lightweight protection, the employed materials offer excellent internal microclimate control to aid transpiration.

Modern metropolitan motorcyclists can ride protected from the perils of traffic thanks to ergonomic shield-like practicability that is as comfortable as it is stylishly cool.

The range is now available from Riders online or in store

New Hayden and Rossi Monster Art “GP Replica” schemes

Valentino Rossi Nicky Hayden DucatiDucati have revealed two new Monster Art colour schemes dedicated to Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.

First introduced in 2009, the innovative Monster Art project offered an additional range of colours to the standard factory options with a collection called “Colour Therapy”, while in 2010 the introduction of the “Logomania” collection celebrated 50 years of historic Ducati logo styles.

Changing the colour and character of any model in the Monster line-up in just 10 minutes is the genius of the Monster Art program, and a feature that passionately supports the Monster culture of customisation. Consisting of tank panels, micro-bikini fairing, single-seat cover and front mudguard, the kits have now become a modern canvas in the world of motorcycle art and a unique method of Monster personalisation.

The two new GP Replica Monster Art schemes are dedicated to factory riders, Nicky “The Kentucky Kid” Hayden and Valentino “The Doctor” Rossi. The new kits have been inspired by the livery of the Desmosedici GP11, which will power both riders this year, with a white design presented on a background of red. Each GP Replica scheme is decorated with the riders' respective logos and further personalised with Rossi's signature flash of fluorescent yellow and famous racing number “46” and Hayden's starred number “69”.

Both colour schemes are available as suitable accessories for the 696, 796, 1100 and 1100 S Monsters as well as the brand new Monster 1100EVO and will be available as original colours on new Ducati Monsters in participating countries.

These colour schemes will be available from Riders from May at £552.34 + VAT.

The new Harley-Davidson Blackline™

Harley-Davidson BlacklineThe Softail chassis utilises rear suspension control provided by coil-over shock absorbers mounted horizontally along the frame rails below the powertrain, where they are out of sight.

So while the swingarm section replicates the lines of a vintage hardtail frame, the Blackline delivers suspension performance and handling that are thoroughly modern.

The internally counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B™ engine is rigid-mounted within the frame, creating a solid connection between rider and power that moves the motorcycle to enhance the emotional riding experience.

Featuring Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), the Twin Cam 96B™ engine is rated at 125 Nm /92 ft. lbs. peak torque at 3250 rpm. Power is delivered via a 6-Speed Cruise Drive® Transmission.

The powertrain is finished in gloss black powdercoat on the rocker box covers, the crankcase, the outer primary cover, and the transmission side cover. The cylinders are silver powdercoat with machined highlights. The derby cover and timing covers are chromed.

"The idea behind Blackline was simple," says Lead Designer Casey Ketterhagen. "We were looking for a bike that would stand out from the other Softail models, something in the 'long custom' niche, with skinny tires and a long frame." Thousands of design, development and engineering man-hours later Ketterhagen's concept successfully evolved into the Blackline."

The first thing you notice on the Blackline is its long, low lines, enhanced by the slammed rear fender and the lowest two-up seat ever offered by Harley-Davidson. Less obvious, but just as important to the overall look, is the low-profile gas tank. Viewed from the front or rear, the Blackline lives up to its name, cutting a narrow slice through the road ahead.

The Blackline's minimalist look and feel was aimed directly at Harley-Davidson's younger customers, explains Scott Habegger, Director of Motorcycle Product Planning. "Our research showed we needed to differentiate the Softail line a little more, and make it more attractive to competitive riders looking for a distinctive Harley® bike within their price range. The Blackline fits the bill perfectly."

Ray Drea, Vice President and Director of Styling, sums up the Blackline's distinctive appeal. "It's not about building consensus. It's not about trying to make everybody happy. It's about making informed decisions in order to provide the best products possible every time. It's about delivering cool to the customer and exceeding their expectations."

The Blackline is in store now and priced £13,895

New BMW R1200R and R1200R Classic

BMW R1200R and R1200R ClassicNew for 2011 BMW Motorrad is continuing its long tradition of roadster building and presents the revised successor models to the successful R 1200 R with the BMW R 1200 R and R 1200 R Classic.

Both combine a modern sporty and accentuated classical motorcycle design, once again with considerably greater quality and driving dynamics for even more riding fun.

The new R 1200 R is powered by a 1170 cc engine that delivers 110 HP at 7750 rpm and a peak torque of 119 NM at 6000 rpm. The new bike will be offered in three exterior colours: mat metallic smoky gray, metallic light gray, or metallic red apple.

Both the R 1200 R and the R 1200 R Classic can be fitted optionally with electronic suspension adjustment ESA. This serves to vary the spring base and the suspension's pressure and rebound stages at the rear wheel, and the suspension's rebound stage at the front wheel – a system that has established itself as the solution for optimized road handling and comfort.

The basic R 1200 R has a sporty character with new cast light alloy wheels, the R 1200 R Classic presents wire spoke wheels for a deliberate touch of refined nostalgia.

New sponsorship deal, new kit and new livery for Jessopp and Rutter in 2011.

Race TeamRapid Solicitors is joining Bathams in sponsoring the RidersMotorcycles.com BSB team for 2011, with the team now to be known as Rapid Solictors-Bathams Racing. The team also has long-term backing from Malaysian petrochemical giant, Petronas.

Rapid Solicitors is a nationwide accident compensation company. Their sponsorship programme includes: the Riders team plus National Superstock entry Hull-based Michael Booth (20), the Ducati 848 Challenge and the BSB championship itself.

Phil Jessopp said: “Stuart Higgs, the BSB Series Director, has been instrumental in helping us conclude this deal, which is not only a benefit to us as a racing team, but also benefits the entire championship.”

For the 2011 season the Riders Ducati 1198 R's will have the full fly-by-wire throttle system.

Jessopp said “It means we can break the track up into 16 sectors and dial in the engine braking and traction control strategies to suit each specific sector. We've also now got launch control which we never previously had.”

The relationship with Ducati is strong after the team's first year with Jessopp confirming “We're also on a two-year deal now.”

Chassis spec is updated with new Brembo brakes but is otherwise similar to last year. “Ducati will be up-specing the 2011 bikes all year. There's new engine internals – pistons and cams - coming to reduce the torque and increase horsepower. “Says Jessopp “The current engine is great for the roads but we do need to take drive out of the engine for BSB tracks to make the power more useable. You can do it with electronics but then all you are doing is slowing the bike. It's better if you can achieve the same result by moving the power around.”

Michel Rutter will again be racing alongside Martin Jessopp in the BSB championships, Michael said “people are saying we've now got a factory Ducati but it's not a factory bike in the true sense of the word, we haven't got factory suspension or 10 more people in the garage looking busy! Martin and I have a chance of winning the title, but I won't worry unless we get to the first race and we're at the back of the grid!”

The team will prepare two extra Ducati 1198s for Michael Rutter to race at this year's TT. He will also race at the North West 200 and Macau GP alongside Martin Jessopp, the team's roads programme will have a different title sponsor.

However, for those that have left the partners and kids behind to focus on a weekend of pure track action there will be plenty on offer. A unique opportunity beckons you to ride the full Silverstone MotoGP Circuit on a weekend with optional training from one the World's best training schools – Californian Superbike School.

Ducati Riding Experience 2011 introduces exclusive Troy Bayliss Academy

Ducati Riding ExperienceDucati's innovative riding school, the Ducati Riding Experience, opens its garage doors on the 2011 season with an incredible program that includes the new Monster 796, 848EVO and 1198 SP as well as the exciting new Troy Bayliss Academy course, which delivers the dream opportunity of tuition from superstar Troy Bayliss himself.

Catering for every level of riding experience, from absolute beginner to race-track specialist, the DRE 2011 courses start a packed calendar of events from April at major circuits across Italy such as Adria, Imola, Monza and Mugello. The safety-driven, but adrenaline-filled event collaborates with the Italian Motorcycle Federation (FMI) setting a new benchmark in fully approved instruction.

For those wanting to lay their very first tyre tracks on a motorcycle, the Basic course onboard Monster 796 motorcycles provides the perfect environment to learn in complete safety under the profession tuition of highly skilled instructors. More experienced riders who want to further improve their bike control skills will benefit from the Intermediate course, which uses Monster 796, Hypermotard 796 and Hypermotard 1100EVO models in specially prepared course exercises.

On the track, the Racing 1 course uses the brand new 848EVO to teach basic track riding-skills in an environment specifically designed for those taking to the track for the first time or who have limited track experience. The course is held exclusively at the Adria Circuit, a perfect place for a track-riding debut.

The Racing 2 course is fully intended for those who already have some track-riding experience and want to improve their style, technique and speed in a fully controlled and safe environment. Also using the Ducati 848EVO, participants will be under the professional tuition of highly experienced and accomplished instructors.

For those riders who already have well developed track skills, are comfortable with being in a high-speed environment and now want to take their riding to the next level, the Master course uses the new Ducati 1198 SP model with an impressive line-up of instructors.

DRE participants will enjoy considerable track-time on some of Italy's top race circuits and full immersion into the world of Ducati, as well as tuition from an incredible line-up of instructors and champions from National, European and World level such as Dario Marchetti, Alessandro Polita and charismatic 500cc World Champion, Marco Lucchinelli.

2011 also sees the inclusion of the Troy Bayliss Academy, an exciting new and exclusive course designed to further extend opportunities for highly competent track-day riders aboard the new Ducati 1198 SP. Groups will be restricted to just four lucky riders per day, each riding with, and receiving direct tuition, from the legendary triple World Superbike Champion himself.

DRE course fees range from €350 for the Basic course to €2000 for the Troy Bayliss Academy and include use of motorcycle, tyres, instructor, fuel, lunch and welcome kit. Course registration, which opens on 20 January 2011, is available exclusively on www.ducatiridingexperience.com

Ducati's new Diavel (Dee-ah-vel)

Ducati DiavelAfter months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, Ducati's new Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan from today.

The name Diavel is from the local Bolognese dialect word for “devil”– pronounced Dee-ah-vel, the idea behind this was born early in the development process of the bike. When the prototype was wheeled out in front Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time a person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in “Ignurànt comm' al diavel!” “Evil, like the devil!”

Built to have a commanding presence, though lightweight and agile like all Ducati's, the Diavel will take the man-motorcycle relationship to the next level in absolute comfort. For connoisseurs of technology, ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes will deliver a confidence-inspiring sophistication while stunning looks, the Superbike-derived Testastretta 11° engine and 207kg (456lb) of authentic Ducati performance will drive a comfortable sport lifestyle that could only be dreamt of until now.

The Diavel is available in two versions: Diavel and Diavel Carbon, enriched with lightweight composites and milled aluminium components that meld the two worlds of sport and style with features that are both visually beautiful and functionally high-performance.

Rutter wins at Knockhill

Micheal RutterMichael Rutter chalked up his first British Superbike race win since 2008 when he took the RidersMotorcycles.com Ducati to a tremendous victory in the first race at Knockhill on Sunday.

It also marked the first British Superbike race win for the RidersMotorcycles.com team.

Rutter is still placed fifth in the championship but has closed to within 27 points of series leader Josh Brookes.

The weather played a significant role in the meeting and the first race required three starts to get a shortened 15-lap race finished. The first start was halted by heavy rain. The second was stopped by a crash on the wet track. But third saw Rutter meticulously pick off the two HM Plant Hondas to claim a brilliant victory by conserving his tyres on a track that started wet but was drying rapidly.

Rutter said: “This is brilliant, not just for me but for the team. It's great to back as a championship contender and it's even better to be standing on top of the podium again.

“The conditions played into my hands a bit but I was desperate to get past the Hondas and run my own race. I know the race was shortened but it's a win none the less in far from ideal conditions.”

The second race was halted by a six-rider crash. No one was seriously injured but, during the delay to clean up the track, the weather conditions deteriorated even further and, after consulting the teams, the race organisers abandoned the meeting.

Team owner Phil Jessopp said: “There's plenty of life left in the old dog yet! Michael rode really well all weekend but I said on Saturday night that if the weather turned nasty, I'd expect Michael to do well in the wet. He's just getting more and more confident with the bike and the team is working really well. And now we're looking forward to the three races at Snetterton.

Rutter's team-mate Martin Jessopp was absent from Knockhill after his Mallory crash. He sustained a broken lower leg in the crash but had an operation on Friday night to pin the injury and is hoping to make a return to the track for at least the final two rounds of the series.

Good news from the tax man

If you're a freelancer or small business owner a little known change in the law could cut your tax bill for company vehicles. And, though it took effect last year, there's still time to save a few grand by switching to two wheels for your business transport.

Changes to the Finance Act mean that self-employed riders buying a motorbike solely for business use can offset 100% of its cost against their taxable profits.

The experienced duo will contest Riders Harley-Davidson® XR1200® race bikes in the Harley-Davidson XR1200 Race seriesinaugural Harley-Davidson XR1200® Trophy race series at the 2010 British Superbike Championship.

Riders Racing was formed in 2004 and the team has a successful pedigree in the British Superstock, Supersport and Superbike championships. Mike and Sean's signing to the Riders group's race team symbolises its commitment to continuing its on-track successes and winning the 2010 XR1200 Trophy.

Mike ‘Spike' Edwards has enjoyed a long and successful career in motorcycle racing, clinching his first two-wheel championship in 1988. The Harrogate-based rider has also has invaluable experience in public roads racing, including winning the Macau Grand Prix and North West 200 on Supersport machines.

The Hertfordshire rider took to the track aboard the Harris-upgraded machine in special displays at two of the 2009 British Superbike events. Emmett was suitably impressed with the XR1200's capabilities, and is looking forward to participating in the 2010 XR1200 Trophy as part of the Riders Racing team.

“The XR1200 is a really great motorcycle,” enthused Emmett after his first ride on the machine at Brands Hatch in 2009. “The handling is really smooth and the suspension is great. It was a little heavier than I'm used to through the chicane, but it flows smoothly through single bends. Once I'd adjusted to the riding style, I was really starting to enjoy it.”

Ducati dealers from all over the UK gathered for the annual Ducati dealer meeting during the recent London Motorcycle Show at Excel.

The dealers were presented with an overview of 2009 and the plans and strategies for 2010 which should prove to be exciting times for the Ducati dealer network with the launch of the eagerly awaited Multistrada and other innovative bikes such as the Monster ABS models.

The dealer meeting closed with the customary dealer awards for those who had excelled in 2009. Commenting on the awards, Tim Maccabee, Managing Director of Ducati UK said “the annual dealer awards are an opportunity for us to recognise the efforts of our best dealers in the previous year, those who have gone over and above the call of duty in meeting the needs of customers and representing the brand. Choosing the winners is always a tough call because, as you can imagine, every Ducati dealer is enthusiastic in representing the brand and we believe they all deliver high standards”.

New Dealer of the year 2009 was awarded to Mr Phil Jessop owner of Riders of Cardiff and was obviously jubilant to receive this award on behalf of his fantastic team in Wales!

Multistrada 1200 arrives with more 'strada' between major services

With the arrival of the new Multistrada 1200, Ducati will reach a significant milestone in the company's engineering history by extending the periods between major services on the new model to an owner-friendly 24,000km (15,000 miles).

Doubling the mileage between valve clearance inspection has been made possible with the introduction of a new valve seat material combined with improved combustion efficiency and temperatureMultistrada 1200 management designed into the Multistrada's new Testastretta 11° engine.

So called because of its minimised 11° of ‘valve overlap' - the interval of crankshaft rotation during which both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time - the new Desmodromic power plant not only transforms the world championship-winning 1198 configuration into a super-smooth 150hp motor for sport touring, but also improves fuel efficiency, emissions and cost of scheduled maintenance.

Arriving in Ducati showrooms from early 2010, the 189kg (417lb) Multistrada 1200 is offered with optional ABS, while the flagship Multistrada 1200 S presents ABS and Ducati Electronic Suspension by Öhlins as standard equipment. The 1200 S is available in ‘Sport edition' with specific components in carbon fibre or ‘Touring edition' with side luggage, heated grips and centre stand.

Bike Safe

Following the success of the previous years Bike Safe events held at Haynes Motor Museum this year the event is taking place at Castle Combe Race Circuit near Chippenham in Wiltshire. Not only has the location moved but also the date as it's now taking place much later in the season on Saturday June 5th.

The Castle Combe Circuit and all its facilities will provide participating riders the opportunity to ride around the circuit supervised by Castle Combe's own riders for a 15 minute session after receiving a full safety briefing after completing a one hour on road ride out with a Police Advanced Motorcyclist on a two to one basis.

There will be something for everyone, even if you're not participating in the Police ride out and track experience dealers including Riders, will be attending with a wide range of motorcycles on display, with clothing and accessories on sale. Free entry, spectators welcome.

The focus of the event remains the same as before, Road and Rider safety. The message is, that further rider training, post test, can dramatically reduce the risk of involvement in serious or fatal incidents and reduce insurance premiums. 2009 saw a significant reduction in rider fatalities over 2008 within the Avon and Somerset force area but this number can be reduced further.

The Police ride out and track experience is open to any rider who holds a full motorcycle licence and is just £25 but due to strict legislation which Castle Combe Circuit must comply with, a noise limit of 105db applies to all bikes on the circuit.

To book a place on the event then follow this link http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/operations_and_initiatives/ride_to_arrive/bikesafe_event.aspx

Bike Show 2009

The Eicma visitors elect the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 Best Bike in show.

More than 20,000 fans voted for the bike by participating in the competition organized each year by the Italian "Motociclismo" magazine, who carried out a survey among the visitors with a form to fill out either at the show or online. The new Multistrada 1200 took more than 48% of the votes, followed by the MV AgustaF4 and the Aprilia RSV4.

The prize giving took place at the end of the show, on the official Motolive stage (the area dedicated to EICMA's external events) in the presence of Dr. Costantino Ruggero, the General Director of EICMA, and Piero Bacchetti, President and CEO of the Edisport publishing group. This was the final event at the end of an intense week that saw nearly 450,000 visitors fill the Halls of the Milano-Rho trade show district.

The award only emphasizes the public's enormous interest in the new jewel in the Borgo-Panigale crown, a further confirmation of the energy and resources that Ducati is dedicating to the constant development of new products.

The new Ducati Multistrada 1200 thus reigns supreme. Not just a new bike, but a new concept of bike. From the moment the EICMA show opened, the area of the Ducati stand dedicated to this innovative machine was flooded with a constant tide of visitors, all eager to see the new product, the pride of the Italian motorcycle industry.

The 1200 is a Multistrada with the emphasis on Multi, a sportbike which is powerful and fun but also easy to ride and whose first priority is the safety and comfort of its rider.

Ducati wanted to produce a motorcycle to tackle any kind of journey and road surface, a motorcycle that used technology derived from the Bologna-made race bikes in MotoGP and World Superbike.

A bike with no limits, that can transform itself to suit the rider's demands, from a supersport to a tourer for long journeys with a passenger and luggage, to an everyday bike which can breeze through the daily commute and also tackle off-road routes with the agility of an enduro; in other words, four bikes in one!

The Ducati Multistrada 1200 arrives on the market in Spring 2010.

The new Multistrada 1200

Ducati UK will be showcasing two of the hottest new models at this year's NEC motorcycle show.

The new and eagerly awaited Multistrada 1200 along with the acclaimed Hypermotard 796 will be making their UK debuts at the International Motorcycle Show in Birmingham from the 27th November to the 6th December.

Ducati will have just two new models on display rather than their full range with a smaller scale stand than in previous years. However despite the economic climate that has resulted in other manufacturers taking the decision not to attend this year's show at all, Ducati felt it was vital to not only support the UK'sDucati 2010 Multistrada 1200 premier motorcycle show but also not to deny the British public the opportunity to see one the most important and eagerly awaited bikes of 2010.

The Multistrada 1200 unveiled recently at the Milan show stunned visitors with its innovative looks and class leading technology. The Multistrada is a bike with the emphasis on ‘multi' and could be described as four-bikes-in-one as its characteristics can be changed by the touch of a button to different riding modes: Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Power and torque delivery, suspension settings and traction control can be changed even while riding. The Multistrada incorporates many innovations including ride–by-wire, Ducati traction control (DTC), Ducati electronic suspension (DES), a new Testestretta 11° 150hp producing 87.5lb ft of torque and a host of other cutting edge specifications.

Weighing in at 189kg the Multistrada is lighter than any other road enduro, touring or sport touring bike currently available and coupled with class leading technology, Ducati has once again set the benchmark and is certain to be the biggest draw at the show.

The Hypermotard 796 joins the Multistrada at the NEC and has already been lauded after its recent press launch in Bologna where it impressed with its agility and adeptness and will no doubt be a draw to those looking for a versatile urban companion. The 796 is as aggressively striking as the 1100, but with a lower seat height, flexible 81hp engine and an overall weight of 167kg, the new 796 fuses aggression with mild manners, a perfect combination for the city or the open road.

New Hypermotard 796

Ducati has released the first images of the Hypermotard 796, in advance of the international EICMA motorcycle show in Milan.

The Hypermotard family will expand for 2010 with the addition of the exciting new Hypermotard 796. Just as aggressively striking as the 1100, the new Hypermotard 796 features a lower seat height and brand new smooth and flexible engine to make it the perfect urban assault vehicle. Whether it's working the daily commute or attacking the opeDucati Hypermotard 796n roads, the 796 will ride the common ground between manners and madness by mixing Ducati's unrivalled twin-cylinder power and sport bike heredity with the lightweight and minimalist supermotard concept.

The 796 weighs in at just 167kg (368lb), partly achieved by a lightweight engine, but also by continued chassis development that includes redesigned top and bottom fork clamps and an improved frame layout which eliminates almost all of the forged elements previously used with the 1100.

At 825mm (32.5in), the seat height of the 796 is a sure-footed 20mm (0.8in) lower than the 1100 and, when combined with the new engine's smooth power delivery, this Hypermotard inspires confidence however and wherever its ridden.

The completely new Ducati 796 engine, which conforms to Euro 3 regulations, produces 81hp (59.6kW) of power and 55.7lb-ft (7.7kgm) of torque with the smooth and economic rideability expected from all Desmodue L-Twins.

The bike is equipped by an APTC ‘wet' clutch to give a ‘slipper' type action that prevents destabilization of the rear-end during aggressive down-shifting and also gives the extra benefit of a super-light feel at the lever, a great benefit in stop-start city traffic or during longer journeys.

The new 796 comes in an urban-style Dark finish with matte black tank and beak section, black frame and black wheels or, alternatively, matte white tank with contrasting matte black beak, black frame and black wheels. For the purists, an 1100 look-alike red tank with matching beak section, red frame and black wheels gives the 796 a traditional livery.

The Hypermotard is expected to arrive at Riders in December. The bike Matt colour versions have an SRP of £6,995 and the traditional Red version is £7,195 SRP.

Hyper-Terminator
TO MAKE SCREEN DEBUT ON June 5th

The year is 2018.

Judgment Day has come and gone, levelling modern civilization. An army of Terminators roams the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans where they hide in the desolate cities and deserts. But small groups of survivors have organized into a Resistance, hiding in underground bunkers and striking when they can against an enemy force that vastly outnumbers them.

Controlling the Terminators is the artificial intelligence network Skynet, which became self-aware 14 years earlier and, in the blink of an eye, turned on its creators, unleashing nuclear annihilation on an unsuspecting world. Only one man saw Judgment Day coming. One man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor (Christian Bale).

Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world. Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught—to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on.

The Hypermotard was the inspiration for one of the newest Terminator machines, the MotoTerminator! Check out some behind the scenes footage of Ducati on the set of Terminator Salvation.

"This movie is all about technology taken to such a high level that it becomes an art form — to me, that fits as a description of Ducati," said McG, Director of Terminator Salvation.

New Streetfighter Launch

Streetfighter
Riders will launch the new Streetfighter in Bristol and Bridgwater on the 9th May and in Cardiff on the 9th and 10th.

Living up to its name, the Streetfighter has already scored a knockout with bikers in the UK as it has become the most lusted after bike of the year. With the soul of a Superbike and the attitude of a fighter, this bike may be the new kid on the block but it is no shrinking violet.

The Streetfighter has the weight and power to take on any opposition with 155 horse power and weighing in at a fighting weight of 169kg or 167kg ('S' model). Although the Streetfighter may sound like a bruiser it maintains its Italian model looks - muscular yet lean and carrying componentry associated with Ducati quality.

Brembo monoblock brakes, Ohlins suspension, lightweight Marchesini forged wheels and Ducati Traction control ('S' model) help harness 85lb-ft of torque from the 1098 L-Twin Testastretta Evoluzione engine.

Riders of Cardiff's official opening weekend

Riders of Cardiff's official opening weekend will take place on 9th and 10th May 2009 to coincide with the launch of the BMW F 800 R and the Ducati Streetfighter.

This is the third Riders store and houses BMW and Ducati under one roof. Riders is the only BMW Dealership in south Wales and the largest BMW Motorrad showroom in the UK. Doors to the dealership were open for trading mid April.

ducati street fighterThe Ducati Streetfighter launching over the weekend is unashamedly, the highest spec naked motorcycle on the market. Powered by the incredible water cooled Desmodromic 1098 L-Twin, the Streetfighter S weighs in at just 167 kg and kicks out 155 hp. What's more, it stops as well as it goes. Built with Brembo's ultra-rigid four piston Monobloc calipers, braking just doesn't come any better. Its unprecedented electronics place variable street-going Ducati Traction Control and Data Analysis at your fingertips. Fully adjustable suspension, forged wheels, the spec and detail just goes on.

The new F 800 R is radically different and yet every inch a BMW. With a state-of-the-art parallel twin engine with electronic fuel injection, the F 800 R develops 87 hp from its 798 cc, not to mention a mighty 86 Nm of torque. The bike is also highly manoeuvrable, thanks to the use of lightweight aluminium in its rigid frame and dynamically styled double swing-arm, which helps keep its dry weight down to just 177 kilograms.

Over the weekend we will provide entertainment, a BBQ, competitions and free give-aways to customers visiting the dealership together with some great special opening offers. Riders will be open on the Saturday 9am to 6pm and 10am to 4pm on the Sunday

HARLEY-DAVIDSON GOES DARK

Renowned for its shiny chrome-laden motorcycles, Harley-Davidson has finally gone over to the dark side. Its latest model, due to be unveiled, is black from fender to fender. With minimal styling and blacked-out features, it belongs to the brand's Dark Custom range,883 Iron which has already proved a huge hit with motorcycle enthusiasts.

To celebrate its arrival at Riders a launch event for the XL883 Iron™ will be held on Saturday 28 February from 9am until 6pm. Visitors will be able to book test-rides for the new model and our café will be open as usual.

The XL 883 Iron™ shares the sleek, pared-down look of the six existing Dark Custom motorcycles, with black mirrors, foot pegs, control levers and wheels. Also black are the drag style handlebars and mid-mount front foot controls. Equipped with a blacked-out 883cc Evolution™ engine, it delivers a powerful performance on city streets, and is smooth and responsive to handle.

Priced at just £5,375 on the road, the XL 883 Iron™ is an ideal entry-level Dark Custom motorcycle. With an edgy, urban and youthful appeal, the stylish range provides a distinctive alternative to the traditional chrome-clad Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. It is accompanied by a Dark Custom clothing collection that includes shirts, hoodies and hats in shades of black or grey.

OUR FINAL DESMOCEDICI

Riders has managed to obtain one of the last available bikes and it's up for grabs so the dream of a true GP replica could now come true for you too.Riders Final Desmocedici

The Desmosedici RR is the first-ever road-going motorcycle to offer such a stunning wealth of performance and technology that comes directly from Ducati's experience in MotoGP.

The price includes a three year warranty and servicing cover plus a "slip-on" muffler and complimentary fuel and ignition mapping in a "race ECU". Just 1500 motorcycles have been produced so this is really a once in a lifetime offer. The Desmosedici is priced at £45,000 - a small price in our opinion for this fantastic motorcycle.

DUCATI STREETFIGHTER VOTED ‘MOST BEAUTIFUL BIKE OF THE SHOW

The Ducati Streetfighter was officially the best-looking bike at the 2008 Milan show. Voted by more than 20,000 enthusiasts taking part in a survey organised by Italian magazine Motociclismo, the award shows the Streetfighter to be an immediate knockout success.

The award ceremony took place on the official Motolive stage in the presence of General Manager of EICMA, Costantino Ruggero, while closing an intense week of exhibition and events during which 500,000 visitors had filled the halls of the Milan-Rho exhibition centre.Streetfighter

The new Ducati Streetfighter was the undisputed star of the Milan show. Stripped to the bare essentials, its combination of state-of-the-art race technology, exposed styling and cultured design has taken Ducati's big naked concept to the very top of the fighter food chain.

With 155hp of Ducati L-Twin muscle harnessed in a stripped-down, super-light, 167kg (368lb – dry weight) bike (S Version) that packs more punch for its weight than any other contender, the Streetfighter becomes the new benchmark for the sector.

The Ducati Streetfighter is equipped with everything that made the Superbike a legend. Awesome L-Twin power from the Testastretta Evoluzione 1098cc engine that produces 85lb-ft (11.7kgm) of heavyweight torque, and thoroughbred chassis technology featuring Ducati's trademark Trellis frame, beautiful single-sided swingarm and planet-stopping Monobloc brakes. The ‘S' version is further equipped with sophisticated Öhlins suspension, lightweight forged wheels, carbon fibre components, and the exclusive Ducati Traction Control system designed for street use.

BW Hoggin the Bridge

On Sunday 19 th October an estimated 4500 bikes joined Bridgwater H.O.G for their now internationally known event ‘Hoggin the Bridge' This was the 9 th year the event has been held and as in previous years were delighted to lend our support. This year the thousandsHoggin the Bridge of bike were lead by BSB Star Leon Haslam who because of sponsorship had to ride his Honda. Leon was accompanied at the front by Bridgwater Chapter director Gill Mogg on her Harley.

There was as usual a hugely positive response to the HOTB9 - helped no doubt by the somewhat windy but dry weather, spectators took to every vantage point possible to watch the parade of bikes travelling at a sedate 30mph. The ride started in Aust and travelled over the first Seven Crossing. On entering Gwent, the convoy of bikes made their way across a 22 mile route through Magor, Rogiet and Caldicot, before ending up in Chepstow where riders enjoyed live music and other entertainments with the streets being closed to all traffic apart from bikes.

Riders of Bridgwater opened early for Chapter members to enjoy croissants and coffee at 07.45 before they set off at 08.30. Riders mechanics were also on hand throughout the day, helping about half a dozen on participants back on their way, mostly due to flat batteries. We look forward to HOTB10!

MONSTER 1100: ABSOLUTE MONSTER

The arrival of the new 1100 and 1100 S now increases the size of the Monster family, a family that redefines the naked motorcycle and stakes its claim as the new icon of Italian excellence .

The ‘less-is-more' philosophy behind all Monsters underlines Ducati's never-ending pursuit of genuinely compact, high performance motorcycles, but these new models have succeeded in being even more ‘pared down' than their predecessors. The Monster 1100 weighs 169kg (168kg for the S version) , making it by far the lightest bike in its category .

The ‘S' features fully adjustable 43mm titanium nitride coated Öhlins forks and progressive Öhlins rear shock absorber with adjustable pre-load and return damping. Carbon fibre cam belt covers, silencer guards and front fender reduce weight by a further 1kg (2.2lb) . European safety programme

Starting from 5 th October until the end of 2009 every customer who purchases a newBack Protector Ducati will receive a top of the range back protector. This initiative is part of the Ducati contribution to a wider European safety programme.

The back protectors will be delivered to Riders during late November so if you bought your bike before this you won't have yet received your protector, but they will be sent out as soon as we receive them.

The protectors are available in a variety of sizes to suit riders height and weights.

It is hoped the back protectors will help protect riders in the unfortunate event of falling from their motorcycle and0 also encourage them to get used to wearing a back protector throughout their riding career as matter of habit.

Harley-Davidson tops CoolBrands public vote

British consumers have voted Harley-Davidson as the number one cool brand in a nationwide survey conducted by Superbrands (UK) Ltd. The motorcycle manufacturer topped the British public's list of aspirational brands for 2008/09 including cars, gadgets, fashion and alcohol.

Perception of the cool factor associated with Harley-Davidson was highest in the south of England, Yorkshire, East Anglia, the North East and Scotland. A sample of 2,500 consumers over the age of 18 took part in the survey to establish the prestigious CoolBrands list for the third year running.

A panel of 30 independent experts made up of journalists, celebrities and marketing industry professionals initially assessed thousands of brands on six core factors in a long process that began in the autumn of 2007. A league table of the top 40 per cent was then provided to consumers based on style, innovation, originality, uniqueness, desirability and authenticity.

At this point, a sample of consumers was asked to order the brands in accordance with their perception of coolness. Harley-Davidson was rated top at this stage, but unfortunately missed out on a top 10 spot overall due to a lower rating by the council of experts, which placed the Motor Company 559 places lower than the public's number one rating.

“This is great news for the brand,” said Greg Willis, Harley-Davidson and Buell UK and Ireland Marketing Manager. “Consumer perception is extremely important to us as a business and crucial in growing our sales in the UK. The Harley-Davidson brand has already reached the pinnacle of cool in America and it is extremely encouraging to see that its appeal is beginning to reach similar heights in Britain.

“It's a significant achievement to have ranked within the qualifying top 500 brands from an initial selection of thousands. We believe that our success can be partly attributed to the lifestyle opportunity that the Harley-Davidson brand presents through a highly successful brand extension programme, which includes fashion, furniture, performance parts and gadgets.”

New pearl white livery for Ducati Hypermotard and Multistrada

Ducati has extended its colour range by adding the stylish pearl white option to two more of its top models, the Hypermotard and Multistrada. Pearl White Hypermotart and Multistrada

Following a dazzling success for the pearl white finish introduced on the Ducati 848 and Monster 696, Ducati will now offer the exciting Hypermotard 1100 and the versatile Multistrada 1100 S in this smart and exclusive livery.

For the Hypermotard 1100, pearl white creates an eye-catching and competition style contrast against its red Trellis frame and new carbon-grey finish applied to the engine outer casings.

On the ‘S' version of the Multistrada 1100, the pearl white shade achieves a more sophisticated contrast against its ‘racing grey' Trellis frame, the new darker carbon-grey finish of the engine outer casings and the precious carbon fibre that characterise the sporting components of this model.

New e-mails for Riders

As well as the improvements to our website you may have noticed that everyone at Riders now have slightly different e-mail address’s. Originally Bridgwater and Bristol had e-mails consisting of just the first name + @ridersobristol.co.uk or @ridersb-w.co.uk (b-w was chosen as Bridgwater doesn’t contain an e and it’s just too easy to put one in by mistake!)

Now you can contact us using the format firstname.lastname@ridersmotorcycles.com

We are also working hard to collect e-mail addresses from all our customers; you may have already received a phone call asking for yours. Don’t worry we won’t start sending out spam 5 times a week, simply in our busy lives e-mail is often the most convenient way of getting in touch.
